The world over, dairy sector has a large potential for growth and socio-economic impact as it leads to a number ofjob prospects and entrepreneurial opportunities. India is the largest milk producing country in the world and has a potential to offer a number of avenues to the persons skilled in this area.  The front end of this industry, i.e., Milk Processing and Dairy Products Manufacturing has witnessed immense development and has a great potential to bloom and offer a number of jobs as well as entrepreneurial opportunities. However, the   dairy farm is yet to witness this kind of development in the country as most of the dairy farmers are not aware of the modern packages/ practices/ technologies.

this course is intended to skill students in these two areas and make them confident skill wise, to take up either job or entrepreneurship in Dairy Farming/Technology.  The programme also helps in gaining insight in areas like improving the milk productivity, milk product innovations, value addition, increasing the shelf-life, earning foreign exchange and enhancing manufacturing competitiveness.

The curriculum includes general education components like, soft skill, biochemistry, microbiology, ICT application, human resource management and the skill-based components like, dairy technology, dairy microbiology, dairy process engineering, technology of manufacturing various milk products, dairy plant/farm design operation & management, safety & quality control, dairy business management, marketing & packaging of dairy product, etc. and entrepreneurship activities apart from industrial internships in selected areas.




DAIRY TECHNOLOGY

Dairy Technology is an engineering field that deals with the processing of milk and its products. This field involves the use of “Technology” to make the dairy products and processing more advanced, hi-tech and useful.The dairy technology is a component of food technology that specifically deals with the processing, storage, packaging, distribution and transportation of the dairy products like milk, ice-cream, curd etc by implying the science of biochemistry, bacteriology, nutrition to the milk and milk products.

Job responsibilities of a dairy manager include caring for the dairy cattle, performing maintenance on the dairy equipment and facilities, management of the herd, coordination of the feeding and milking, creating and implementing budget plans, maintaining records of what has been done to the cattle as well as production levels, and ensuring the quality of dairy being produced.A high school diploma or an associate's or bachelor's degree in dairy management or a related field is required to be a dairy manager. Helpful job skills include attention to detail, strong communication skills, knowledge of dairy farming, good leadership skills, and ability to organize. The future job market outlook for a dairy manager is declining.
